I appreciate this quote from Bryan Stevenson. He is a fellow Christ follower and the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization that is committed to "challenging racial and economic injustice and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society". At Illini Christian Ministries, we are often serving those who face many barriers, including racial and economic injustice. As Christ followers, the conviction of our hearts is that our Heavenly Father hates injustice. The staff at ICM have come to realize how vital it is that we commit to educating ourselves about the injustices our clients face. We would love for everyone in the ICM family to join us on this journey. Two resources that staff has benefited from are the movie "Just Mercy", created by Bryan Stevenson and the EJI, and the book "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo. Just Mercy is currently free for rent across digital platforms. If you do not already do so, follow Illini Christian Ministries on Facebook as we will be posting additional resources on an ongoing basis. Every man, women, and child is created in the image of Christ. My prayer is that we represent His heart as we seek to come alongside those experiencing racial and economic injustice.
Volunteers Needed!!!
Summer is always a difficult time for vulnerable children and families in our communities. With everything going on in our country, we anticipate the needs being even higher this year. Many families have lost their jobs, childcare options, etc... . Our Family Care program is always in need of more volunteers to join our Safe Families teams! The beauty of these teams is the opportunity to fill a role that best fits your gifts and availability! Many assume that we simply need folks who are able to host children. This is definitely a need but we also need Family Friends, Resource Friends, Ministry Leads at churches, and Family Coaches. Praises and Prayer Requests
1. Ask the Lord's forgiveness for the ways in which we as individuals and as a nation have failed to treat all people as individuals who are made in the image of God.
2. Pray for provision of resources and volunteers as we seek to meet the needs of the children and families we serve this summer.
